Thomas Friedman is an op-ed columnist for The New York Times and a three-time recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for his international reporting and commentary. He became the newspaper’s foreign affairs op-ed columnist in 1995. He joined the Times in 1981 and served as Beirut bureau chief, Israel bureau chief, chief diplomatic correspondent, chief White House correspondent and international economic correspondent. His books include the National Book Award-winner From Beirut to Jerusalem, The World is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century and Hot, Flat and Crowded. His most recent book is That Used to Be Us: How American Fell Behind in the World We Invented and How We Can Come Back. He earned degrees from Brandeis University and Oxford University.
